With the Democratic Party taking all two seats in the US Senate runoff vote in Georgia, the Democratic Party took over the presidential power and the House of Representatives and even the Senate became a reality. Accordingly, it is expected that President-elect Joe Biden’s promotion of various policies, including bidenomics, will be supported by Congress.

On the 6th (local time), the US media reported simultaneously that Democratic candidates Rafael Warnock and John Osoff defeated incumbent Republicans and won in the Georgia runoff vote held the day before. Based on the 99% counting rate, Candidate Warnock’s vote rate was 50.8%, surpassing Rep. Kelly Loeffler (49.2%) by 1.6 percentage points (70,476 votes). Candidate Osoff earned 50.4%, defeating Congressman David Purdue by 0.8 percentage points (32,883 votes).

With the Democratic Party securing two seats for the Senate in Georgia, the total of 100 seats in the Senate is 50 Democrats and 50 Republicans. Considering the fact that Vice President-elect Kamala Harris takes on the casting boat as an ex officio Senate chairman, the Democratic Party has become the de facto majority. The Democratic Party’s domination of the Senate has been six years since the 113th Congress (2013-2015) during the Barack Obama administration, and it has been 10 years since the 111th (2009-2011) that the Democratic Party took over the Senate and House.

With the Democratic Party’s success in recapture of the Senate, the administration of Joe Biden, which will be launched on the 20th, is expected to gain more momentum in the initial state administration, such as the election of the cabinet, massive economic stimulus and tax increases, and eco-friendly policies. Some have raised concerns that the increase and various regulations of Biden’s next administration will hold back the stock market, but the stock market on that day was offset by massive infrastructure expenditures led by the Democratic Party and stronger responses to the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19). It was an atmosphere of positive acceptance. In fact, the Dow index surged 1.4% to an all-time high. On the other hand, Nasdaq fell 0.6% on concerns that regulations on large information and technology (IT) companies will be strengthened.

Meanwhile, Democrats John Osoff (33) and Warnock (51) of the Democrats who won the Georgia runoff vote will be the first Democrats in Georgia to be born in 20 years. Candidate Warnock made the history of being the first black senator to be produced in Georgia. Candidate Osoff sets the record for the youngest Democratic senator since Biden, who entered the Senate in 1973 at the age of 29. In December of last year, he promised Korean voters to increase the rights of Koreans, and his mother, Heather Fenton, showed special interest in the Korean community, including actively supporting the establishment of the Atlanta Peace Girl Award three years ago.
