“Until the nuclear issue is resolved on the Korean Peninsula, North Korea is still the most threat facing the United States.”
US Indo-Pacific Commander Philip Davidson told Congress.
In a response to the hearing to the Senate Military Commission, he said, “North Korean leader Kim Jong-un is re-establishing a belligerent stance,” he said, posing a serious security threat to the United States and its partners.
As commander-in-chief three years ago, Davidson has also voiced caution against North Korea at other recent meetings.
They criticized North Korea as exporting coal in violation of UN bans, and malicious cybercrime as a major source of income for North Korea.
As for the ROK-US alliance, he said that it is a key axis for a stable security environment, and that negotiations on the defense cost share between the two countries should be concluded quickly in order to maintain the combat posture of the US forces in Korea.
Meanwhile, the Quad Summit, which he said will be held this week, has been set on the 12th.
