The cumulative death toll is approaching 60 due to the cold wave that struck the United States.

According to the Associated Press on the 19th (local time), at least 58 people were killed in the cold wave in Texas and all over the United States. In Abilene, Texas, six people died, including a 60-year-old man found dead in an off-heat house. In Conroe, Texas, an 11-year-old died while sleeping in a mobile home. Authorities suspected hypothermia as the cause of death. A Tennessee farmer and a 17-year-old girl from Oklahoma died in an icy pond. Earlier, in Texas, many died from carbon monoxide poisoning while turning on cars in closed garages for heating or using gas grills indoors. There have also been several deaths from car accidents and fires on ice roads.

The Washington Post (WP) predicted that the next week when the weather clears, administrative authorities, including police, will check whether residents are safe, and that additional deaths could be confirmed in the process.

In Texas, which suffered the worst human and property damage, electricity was restored, but resolving the water shortage emerged as a new task. The power outage in Texas once reached 4.5 million households, and residents suffered excruciatingly in the cold and cold. The Electric Reliability Commission (ERCOT), which operates the Texas power grid, announced today that the power system has returned to normal.

Electricity came on, but water shortages continued due to the freezing of water pipes. Texas authorities have said that water supplies to 14.4 million people in 160 counties have been shut down. The Austin Water Commissioner said there were thousands of freeze accidents and tens of thousands of leaks.

As the temperature rises, the cold wave is expected to end. CNN, citing data from the U.S. Meteorological Agency, reported that the area covered with snow and ice will begin to melt this weekend, and the highest temperature in most of Texas in the middle of next week will be around 10-20 degrees.
