Up to 20% increase in supply prices such as NXP due to shortage of automotive semiconductors

Semiconductor suppliers such as Renesas and NXP are raising semiconductor prices by up to 20% from 10%.

[M 오토데일리 이상원기자] As the supply shortage of automotive semiconductors is expanding worldwide, semiconductor suppliers such as Renesas and NXP are raising semiconductor prices by up to 20% from 10%.

Automakers are expected to inevitably increase vehicle production costs following production disruptions.

Global semiconductor companies such as Renesas Technology, a Japanese semiconductor supplier, Toshiba, and NXP Semiconductors of the Netherlands, are raising the prices of semiconductors for automobiles and communication devices at once. It is known that the rise is 10% up to 20%.

According to a report by the Japanese Economic Daily, Japanese Renesas, the third-largest company in the automotive semiconductor market, recently requested an increase in product prices from its trading partners.

It targets almost all types of semiconductors, such as microcomputers that control voltage and power semiconductors.

It is reported that Toshiba has also entered into negotiations with trading companies to increase the price of automotive semiconductors.

They explained the background of the price hike, saying that processing consignment costs and material costs have recently risen, so that depending on the product, it is inevitable to reflect it in the supply price.

It is estimated that a 10% increase in automotive semiconductor prices will increase the production cost of automobiles by about 0.18% and operating profit will decrease by about 1%.

The supply shortage of semiconductors for automobiles was due to a new coronavirus infection (Corona 19), which led to a decrease in automobile demand. As it recovers rapidly, the supply of semiconductors is short, and production of automakers is disrupted.
