The city of Seoul announced that it has entered the second stage emergency work system at 2 pm on the 3rd as a heavy snowfall of up to 10 cm is forecast until dawn on the 4th, and has put in about 9000 personnel and 1,000 equipment.
According to the Meteorological Administration, it is expected that 3-10 cm of snow will fall in the metropolitan area from 6 pm on the day to early morning on the 4th. In the Seoul area, a heavy snow warning went into effect at 7 pm on the same day.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government explained that as of 7 pm, 8998 people were put into the snow removal work. 1011 snow removal equipment and about 1600 tons of snow removal were mobilized.
The city of Seoul detected signs of snowfall through a closed circuit (CC) TV installed on the road of snowfall in the West Sea region, and sprayed snow removal agent in advance with priority on vulnerable roads such as alleyways and steep slopes before snow falls.
In addition, in preparation for traffic congestion, traffic police were deployed at 221 vulnerable places such as hills, curves, and bridge ramps, and requested cooperation from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency to control traffic in vulnerable areas during heavy snowfall.
The city’s public transportation operates a 30-minute extension of the intensive dispatch time between the day of work and the 4th rush hour. The extended intensive dispatch time to work is from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm, and the intensive dispatch time to work is from 7:00 am to 9:30 am.
The subway is scheduled to run 36 times more during work hours than usual, and 20 times during work hours. In addition to the city buses, the minimum dispatch interval during rush hours will be extended by 30 minutes for all routes, and nighttime reduction due to the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) will be temporarily canceled.
For the normal operation of city buses and village buses running on slopes and hills, the city, cooperatives, and transportation companies are planning to establish a preliminary snow removal cooperation system to minimize civil discomfort.
In addition, to prevent accidents such as breakdown of outdoor facilities such as electric cars due to freezing overnight, it was decided to reinforce facility inspections such as train inspection before leaving the factory by holding electric cars inside the indoor inspection room.
