[아시아경제 조유진 기자] The United Nations has called for US sanctions against the Saudi Arabian crown prince, who is believed to have approved the assassination of journalist Jamal Kashqji.

In a statement posted on Twitter on the 26th (local time), the rapporteur on the UN summary execution of Agnes Calamar said the United States should impose sanctions on Crown Prince Muhammad Binsalman’s personal assets as well as his international affairs. He added that immunity should not be given in relation to civil lawsuits.

Saudi Arabia urged to disclose how Kashqzi’s body was handled.

Earlier, the U.S. National Intelligence Service (DNI) released a report evaluating that day Crown Prince Muhammad approved the murder of journalist Kashqji.

In this regard, the State Department announced a ban on visas for 76 Saudis, and the Treasury also imposed sanctions, but Crown Prince Muhammad was not subject to sanctions.

It is said that it is a measure that compromised the reality that Saudi Arabia is an alliance in the Middle East and is in power. U.S. President Joe Biden made a phone call with Saudi Arabian King Salman bin Abdulaziz Alsaud the day before, conscious of concerns that the release of the DNI report could erode relations between the two countries.

Kashqji, a dissident who criticized the Saudi royal family while working as a columnist for the Washington Post in the US, was murdered after going to the Saudi Consulate General in Istanbul in October 2018 to receive marriage documents. His body is known to have been damaged and then abandoned.
