The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) has urged Russian authorities for the immediate release of the arrested “Putin’s greatest opponent” Alaxey Navalni.

According to the Reuters news agency on the 18th, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights posted a post on Twitter that day, saying, “Navalni’s arrest is a very serious problem,” and “Russian authorities must release him immediately.”

Earlier, on the evening of the 17th (local time), Navalni was arrested by “Federal Enforcement Bureau” agents, the correctional authorities, every time he arrived at Sheremetyevo Airport in Moscow, Russia.

Navalni collapsed on a Russian domestic aircraft in August last year, showing symptoms of poison, and was transferred to Germany to receive treatment, recover consciousness, and undergo rehabilitation treatment. The Russian authorities immediately arrested Navalni, who returned home after treatment.

The arrest of Navalni is causing a backlash from the international community, including the United Nations. This is because Western countries, including the United States, judge that the attempt to poison Navalni in August last year was a Russian act.

Jake Sullivan, who was appointed as the first national security adviser to the next US administration, Joe Biden, also tweeted that “the Russian attack on Navalni is not just a violation of human rights, but an insult to the Russian people who want to hear his voice.” .
