U.S. Vaccine exports to Russia

US Department of Welfare Report “convinces Brazil to reject Russian vaccines”

The US and Russia had a nervous war over the export of’Sputnik V’, a Russian vaccine for the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19). When a report appeared in a US government report that appeared to be trying to impede the export of Russian vaccines to Brazil, Russia took the issue and criticized the United States.

According to the Washington Post (WP) and others on the 16th (local time), the controversy originated in the annual report published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) in January during the Donald Trump administration.

This report describes the diplomatic efforts that HHS’s Department of International Affairs (OGA) has had in response to attempts to increase its influence by harming the safety and security of the United States, including Russia.

“Some of the cases include using OGA to persuade Brazil to reject Russia’s COVID-19 vaccine.”

This report did not attract attention at the time of publication, but the situation changed when a photo of the report was posted on the official Twitter account of Sputnik V vaccine.

The account posted a post pointing out that “I think each country should cooperate to save lives. Attempts to damage vaccines are unethical and life-threatening.”

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov criticized the pressure to reject Russian vaccines against some countries as unprecedented and unlikely to succeed.

He also opposes politicizing vaccines. “There should be as many vaccines as possible so that many countries, including the least developed countries, have a chance to stop the pandemic.”

The US embassy in Brazil issued a statement and refuted that it had never stopped Brazil from accepting the vaccine, while their respective regulatory bodies approved the use of the vaccine.

The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also said in a statement that the Brazilian embassy in the US had not had any consultations or actions from US authorities or companies regarding the possibility of purchasing Russian vaccines.

Brazil is in a serious pandemic, with the number of corona 19 confirmed and dead after the United States.

The WP reported that more countries are turning their eyes to Russian vaccines as western developed countries prioritize their own vaccinations and take a passive attitude toward sharing vaccines.

The Brazilian government has not yet approved the use of the Sputnik V vaccine, but last week the federal government signed a contract to purchase 10 million doses.

The US has announced that President Joe Biden will provide $4 billion for vaccine support around the world and share it with the world if there is a spare in the United States, but it is still a position that national vaccinations are the priority.

President Biden said today on the issue of sharing extra vaccines, “We are already talking to several countries. We will tell you very soon.”
