On the 2nd (local time), two Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents who were executing a search warrant in Florida, USA, were shot dead.

According to the Associated Press, a shooting took place in an apartment complex in Sunrise, South Florida, around 6 am that day.

FBI agents visited the apartment complex to execute federal search warrants for cases including child pornography and violent crimes against children.

Reuters reported that the search warrant was aimed at finding evidence related to allegations of possessing child pornography.

A nearby resident reported that he heard four bullets fired at 6 am, and that he heard more than five shots again after about two minutes.

Afterwards, a special squadron wearing a riot uniform appeared, and a scene of them moving around the apartment was observed.

The incident killed two of the FBI agents and wounded three. Both of the dead worked as agents for child-related crimes at the FBI.

Of the three injured agents, two were transferred to the hospital and the condition was stable, and the other one was known to have suffered damage to the extent that it did not require hospitalization.

The suspect who hit the barricade was found dead. The Washington Post said it was not clear how the shooting occurred, but the suspect appears to have taken his own life.

The AP reported that the incident was a middle-class residential area with detached houses and apartments.

Immediately after the incident, local police increased their police force, closed the surrounding roads, and urged residents to stay at home.

The most recent shooting death of an FBI agent was in November 2008. At the time, FBI agent Samuel Hicks was killed in a fire while searching a house in Pittsburgh for drug trafficking.

In 1994, two FBI agents and one police officer were killed and one injured when a murder suspect was shot at a Washington DC police station.

One of the deadliest incidents is the shooting in April 1986 while pursuing two bank robbers in a suburb of Miami, Florida, killing two FBI agents and wounding five.

Reuters said the case was “one of the most bloody incidents in federal law enforcement agencies in decades.”
