At a general hospital in Gwangju, two medical staff were infected with a novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19).

According to health authorities on the 15th, three Gwangju citizens who contacted No. 634, Yongsan-gu, Seoul the previous day, were tested positive for Corona 19 (Gwangju No. 1947~1949).

They are known to have traveled to Jeonju with a confirmed patient in Yongsan-gu on the 10th, a day before the Lunar New Year holiday. Yongsan-gu No. 634, a confirmed case of group infection at Soonchunhyang University Hospital in Seoul, was confirmed on the 13th after the trip.

Among the Gwangju confirmed patients who contacted the Yongsan-gu confirmed patients, 1947-1948 were identified as nurses and clinical pathologists at a general hospital in Buk-gu, Gwangju.

Gwangju No. 1948 did not work in the hospital after contact with the confirmed patient, but the emergency room nurse No. 1947 was found to have worked in the emergency room on the 11th to 12th.

The health authorities conducted a thorough examination of 195 staff at the hospital. In order to minimize the contact points of employees, sequential inspections are in progress over three days according to the working schedule.

17 emergency room patients who were examined were self-contained, 34 patients and 31 guardians were under active surveillance.

The authorities who conducted the on-site risk assessment considered that the risk of infection in the hospital was low as they were infected by contact with external confirmed patients, and they did not quarantine the cohort (same group) and operated the emergency room normally.

Health authorities will discuss additional measures, such as cohort quarantine, if additional infections occur.
