For the first time, the U.S. Congress invalidated President Donald Trump’s veto of legislation.

According to major foreign media such as AP and CNN, the US Senate held a plenary session on the 1st (local time) and re-determined the 2021 Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) with 81 votes in favor of 13 votes against.

The bill contains a defense and security budget worth $740 billion (approximately 807 trillion won), and includes content that prevents reducing the size of US forces in Korea.

President Trump said that the bill violated the president’s authority to bring US troops stationed abroad, such as Korea, Germany, and Afghanistan, and protected large social media companies such as Google, Twitter, and Facebook from legal liability for content. He vetoed that the abolition was missing.

However, it was pointed out that this was President Trump’s retaliation against social media companies who did not side with him during the presidential election.

This is the first time Congress has invalidated his veto power since President Trump took office. Moreover, it was rejected by the Senate led by the ruling Republican Party with overwhelming approval, so it hurt President Trump, who still insisted against the presidential election.

“The NDAA is for our brave men and women soldiers serving the state in uniforms,” said Senate Representative Mitch McConnell, who leads the Republican Party. “It is also an opportunity to keep military pace with rivals such as Russia and China.”

Republican Senate Armed Forces Chairman James Inhoff also said, “The NDAA provides the military with the necessary resources and makes the United States safer.”

Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said, “The US Congress has clearly rebuked President Trump’s reckless attack on US history and security with a strong and overwhelming bipartisan vote.”

CNN said, “The US Congress overpowered the veto by overwhelming votes, humiliating President Trump at the end of his power.”

President Trump criticized Twitter as “pathetic” for the Senate’s NDAA re-decision that invalidated his veto, but the White House declined to express its position.
