After the vote, Democratic Party leader Chuck Schumer criticized democracy, saying, “Former President Trump stopped peaceful regime change with violence, overturned the people’s will, and incited mob illegally to maintain power.”

Republican leader Mitch McConnell said, “The impeachment system under the constitution is intended to exclude the president who has committed serious crimes and misdemeanor crimes,” and thus voted innocent.
