Former Vice President Joe Biden (78) took office as the 46th President of the United States at noon on the 20th (2am on the 21st of the local time and Korea time). After four years of Donald Trump’s era of chaos and division, he became the new president, emphasizing integration through his inaugural address. With President Biden’s inauguration, who broke up with Trump’s “US priority,” and promoted the restoration of the alliance and “return of the United States,” a major change in US domestic and foreign policy is expected.

President Biden pledged in front of Chief Justice John Roberts on the stage in front of the Washington Capitol at 11:47 a.m. that day, “I swear to faithfully fulfill the duties of the US President and do my best to preserve and protect the US Constitution.”

In his inauguration speech that followed, President Biden said, “We rediscovered that democracy is precious and fragile.” I said. He referred to the challenges faced by the United States such as Corona 19, racial inequality, political extremism, white supremacy, and domestic terrorism. “It is a historical moment of crisis and challenge. Integration is the only way to success.” He said, “There is no peace without integration. There is only bitterness and anger,” he said, encouraging him to look at each other as neighbors, not enemies, treat each other with dignity and respect, and think in the other’s situation. He emphasized, “We must end this barbaric war that makes red vs. blue, rural and urban, conservative and progressive enemies of each other.”

“I swear to be president for all Americans,” said President Biden. “I will fight hard for those who did not support me as well as for those who supported me.”

President Biden also pledged to abolish Trump’s “American First”, restore the alliance, and restore America’s status. He said to the world, “We will restore our alliance and re-engage with the world. We will be a strong and reliable partner in peace, development and security.” He also said, “We will not simply show off our strength, but lead us by example.”

After entering the White House this afternoon, President Biden signed 17 executive orders and instructions, including “wearing a mask for 100 days,” rejoining the Paris Climate Change Convention, and withdrawing the entry ban applied to some Islamic countries, and embarked on “erasing Trump” in earnest. President Biden has cited Corona 19, economic recession, climate change, and racial inequality as top priorities in state administration, and plans to pour out relevant measures over the next ten days. However, it will take considerable time to tackle the fierce divisions and collapsed democracy in the Trump era. There is also a political task of impeachment of Trump in the Senate.

The inauguration ceremony was held on this day with the number of attendees drastically reduced due to Corona 19. In the past, the National Mall in front of the Capitol, where hundreds of thousands of people flocked, was instead filled with about 190,500 stars and stripes.

Trump left the White House at 8:20 a.m. that day without attending the inauguration and flew to Florida, where he was home.
