US President Donald Trump declared a state of emergency in Washington, the capital city on the 11th (local time) and instructed the federal government to support Joe Biden’s inauguration ceremony. Accordingly, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security advanced the deployment of the Federal and National Guard forces, which were originally scheduled for the 19th, the day before the inauguration ceremony, to 13th. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) predicted that Trump supporters would protest against Biden’s inauguration, not only in Washington but across the United States. Washington, Maryland, and Virginia have urged residents not to attend the presidential inauguration ceremony on the 20th for safety, but to watch remotely.

House of Representatives votes on impeachment prosecution today

On this day, the Democratic Party of the United States began to go through the process of impeaching President Trump in earnest. It has been five days since Trump supporters occupied Congress on the 6th. The Democratic Party of the House of Representatives submitted a resolution and impeachment bill, respectively, asking Vice President Mike Pence to remove Trump from office pursuant to Article 25 of the Amendment to remove Trump from his pre-termination position.

The impeachment bill is voted at a plenary session of the House of Representatives on the 13th. If more than half (217) of the registered lawmakers approve, it will be passed. Since the Democratic Party is a majority party in the House of Representatives with 222 seats, it is expected to pass. In this case, President Trump will remain in office for a week and record the impeachment bill being passed in the House of Representatives.

The resolution to invoke Article 25 of the Amendment was unanimously passed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on this day, but the opposition of Republican lawmakers decided to vote on the Plenary Session of the House of Representatives on the 13th. If passed, Vice President Pence must state whether the provisions will be invoked within 24 hours. House Speaker Pelosi has said that if Pence does not invoke Article 25 of the Amendment, it will enter Trump’s impeachment proceedings, but it is unlikely that Pence will accept it.

On that day, Trump and Pence met for the first time five days after the congressional occupation. The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) quoted a source and said, “The President and Vice President have promised to continue working hard for the country for the rest of their tenure.” It made it clear that Trump would not withdraw before the end of his term.
