The Ministry of Environment announced on the 13th that it will issue preliminary measures to reduce fine dust throughout the metropolitan area from 6 am on the 14th.

The Ministry of Environment explained that it will take such measures as it is predicted that the concentration of fine dust will remain’bad’ in the metropolitan area and Chungnam area on the 14th and 15th.

Preliminary fine dust reduction measures are issued to enhance the effectiveness of emergency reduction measures through preliminary response when there is a high possibility that emergency reduction measures will be implemented after two days.

When preliminary measures to reduce fine dust are issued, measures such as reduction of operating hours at public worksites, suppression of scattering dust at construction sites, and expansion of the operation of road sweepers will be implemented.

The situation of high-density fine dust continued last week in the metropolitan area, but on the 13th, the concentration of ultra-fine dust (PM2.5) remained at a’normal’ level (16-35㎍/㎥) in most areas of the country.

However, from 14 to 15 days, the concentration of ultrafine dust in the metropolitan area and Chungnam region is expected to exceed 50㎍/㎥, which is more than’bad’.

The Ministry of Environment is planning to make every effort to improve the situation of fine dust by conducting on-site inspections of workplaces emitting fine dust on weekends as well.

The Ministry of Environment said, “Because the high concentration situation persists, we should refrain from outdoor activities and remove fine dust as much as possible after going out, such as washing hands and washing faces.” It is also necessary for residents to participate, such as reporting,” he stressed.
