Tokyo Organizing Committee Increases Corona 19 Testing for Olympic Athletes

The Tokyo Olympic Organizing Committee, preparing for the Tokyo Summer Olympics in July this year, is planning to increase the number of tests for new coronavirus infections (Corona 19) for Olympic athletes.

According to Inside the Games, an online media that deals with the news about the Olympics on the 11th (KST), Seiko Hashimoto, chairman of the Tokyo Organizing Committee (Chairman), in an interview with the Japanese media on the previous day, further examined the Corona 19 test of Olympic athletes due to the spread of the corona 19 variant virus. He said he is considering a plan that he often does.

In the first place, athletes participating in the Olympics were scheduled to be inspected once every four days during the competition.

This was at the order of Chairman Thomas Bach of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Hashimoto explained.

Chairman Bach called on the Tokyo Organizing Committee to come up with strict inspection rules to combat the Corona 19 virus.

Chairman Hashimoto said, “I think it’s better to follow strict rules from the beginning than to change the rules of inspection in the middle of the tournament,” he said.

The Tokyo Olympics, which open on July 23 and close on August 8, are expected to attract 11,000 athletes, including 206 National Olympic Committee (NOC) athletes and refugee teams belonging to the IOC.

The IOC and the Tokyo Organizing Committee will distribute the’Playbook’, a collection of rules for prevention of COVID-19, to athletes and media officials. To prevent the spread of COVID-19 during the Olympics, the IOC will be banned from the use of public transportation, and will stay as short as possible before leaving the country.
