The torch of the Tokyo Summer Olympics, which starts on July 23rd, runs across Japan for 121 days starting today (25th).

However, contrary to the original plan, the torch relay began quietly due to the seldom breakdown of the coronavirus outbreak.

A large torch in the center of the stage for the torch relay departure ceremony is on fire, and the first torch relay runner sets fire to the torch peak.

The first runners were Azusa Iwashimizu and 16 members of the Japanese national team who won the 2011 Women’s Football World Cup.

The torch is set to arrive at the Tokyo National Stadium on July 23, the opening day, after traveling all over Japan for 121 days from J Village, where the Fukushima nuclear power plant explosion response headquarters was installed.

<우치보리 마사오 / 일본 후쿠시마현 지사> “The reason that the torch relay begins in J Village, a symbol of Fukushima revival, is to support the local people who have been working hard for reconstruction.”

The torch was lit in Greece in March of last year, but it has been on display in Japan for about a year due to the postponement of the Tokyo Olympics.

Although the torch relay began to be difficult, Japan’s intention to splendidly inform the restoration and revival of the Great East Japan Earthquake with its departure from Fukushima has virtually faded.

The torch departing event, which was expected to be attended by 3,000 people, was reduced without visitors, and even Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga was absent due to political schedule.

Japan is showing signs of a rapid increase in new confirmed cases since the Corona 19 emergency was lifted.

The Tokyo Olympics are still not welcomed in Japan, so that about 69% of Japanese people say that it is better to rerun or cancel the Olympics.
