The criminal who ran away after raping a woman in a public toilet in 2008 was arrested after 13 years after being caught by DNA tracking.

According to the Gyeonggi Ilsan Western Police Station, in July 2008, 112 reports were filed that a woman in her 50s was sexually assaulted in a women’s toilet in a shopping mall in Goyang City.

At that time, the police could not catch the suspect who fled immediately after the crime, and the DNA of the suspect collected from the victim was sent to the National Institute of Scientific Investigation and stored in a database.

The case, which had been classified as an’U.S. rape case’ due to no clues about the suspect for a long time, was resolved in about 13 years after a report of theft was received at a family home earlier this year.

The police, who were reported and dispatched, collected DNA at the site of the theft and sent it to the National Institute of Scientific Investigation to check it out.

Based on the DNA evidence, the police tracked the suspect for about 70 days and recently arrested Mr. A (29, male, unemployed) at a residence located in Paju City.

At the time of the incident, Mr. A was a 16-year-old high school student, and the victim is now dead.

Mr. A admitted to the charges in a police investigation.

The police applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. A on the charges of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes, and on the morning of the 6th, the suspect was examined before arrest (substantial warrant examination) for Mr.

A police official said, “DNA checks allowed us to track down the suspect in an incident that took place a long time ago. The suspect was arrested without even knowing that the police were investigating this case, but admitted to the crime based on DNA evidence.” Explained.
