According to the’Global Electric Vehicle Battery Usage Rankings for January-November 2020′ released by SNE Research on the 4th, the total amount of electric vehicle batteries registered in 77 countries in the world from January to November of last year was 116.5GWh, up 15.3% from the same period last year. Electric vehicles include pure electric vehicles (EV), plug-in hybrids (PHEV), and hybrids (HEV).
As the demand for electric vehicles, which had been reduced by Corona 19 in the first and second quarters of last year, began to recover from the third quarter, sales of electric vehicles increased, and the use of batteries installed in them increased. In particular, in November alone, the usage amounted to 17.5GWh, a 55.4% increase from the same month last year. It has been increasing for 5 months already.

CATL took the cumulative first place last year thanks to the recovery of the Chinese electric vehicle market. CATL’s battery usage increased 3.1% year-on-year to 28.1GWh, recording 24.2% market share. CALB also rose to 8th with 2.7GWh, an increase of 104.9%.
LG Energy Solutions, a battery subsidiary of LG Electronics, recorded 26.4 GWh of electric vehicle battery usage, an increase of 142.7% during the same period, but remained in second place after CATL with a 22.6% market share.
The battery usage of and silver was 6.8GWh and 6.5GWh, respectively, recording 5.8% and 5.5% market share, respectively, ranking 4th and 5th. The market share of the three domestic battery makers nearly doubled from 16.6% in January-November 2019 to 33.9% in January-November 2020.
SNE Research explained that these three battery companies were able to expand their market share as sales of models equipped with each company’s batteries increased significantly.
