The Seoul Metropolitan Government decided to prepare for the first stage of the snow removal emergency service from the daytime on the 17th to prepare for the heavy snowfall notice.
Previously, the Meteorological Administration announced that it would issue a heavy snow preliminary warning to all areas of Seoul, saying that a considerable amount of snow will fall between the night and the dawn of the 18th. The expected snowfall is 2-7cm.
Accordingly, the city of Seoul has deployed 817 snowplows and 1,70 units of equipment such as dump trucks and loaders from the daytime, and sprayed snow removal agents on the roads in vulnerable areas such as alleyways and steep slopes before snow.
About 4,000 people, including public officials and employees from municipalities, autonomous districts, and affiliated agencies, have been assigned to the snow removal and anti-icing work. This is because the temperature drops sharply from before it snows, and the strong cold continues until the dawn of the 18th, and there is a high possibility that the snow will freeze.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government also requested cooperation from the Seoul Police Agency to control traffic in vulnerable areas by deploying traffic squads at 221 vulnerable points as soon as it snowed. The number of police officers to be mobilized is 260, including 60 people in two squadrons on the night of the 17th, 140 people in four squadrons on the morning of the 18th and 120 people in two squadrons.
In addition, if the heavy snow warning goes into effect, the intensive dispatch time for all subway and city bus lines will be extended by 30 minutes during the rush hour on the 18th, and adjusted from 7 am to 9:30 am.
Je-Hyun Han, head of the Seoul safety department, said, “As it is predicted that there will be a lot of snow with a strong cold on the weekends, we will use all available manpower and equipment to do the snow removal work.”
