Volkswagen’s’T-lock’, which made its appearance in the domestic small sports utility vehicle (SUV) market, was optimized for safe urban driving. It has a stylish exterior and spacious interior space of Volkswagen, and has safety devices in case of an urban accident.

The Tyrok inherited the design of Volkswagen’s new SUV, which was found in the’Tiguan’, a car above its rank. The overall length, width, and height of the Tyrok are 4235, 1820, and 1575mm, which enhances the dynamics through a relatively wide overall width and low overall height. The low center of gravity also maximizes steering performance. The shaft distance is 2605mm.

A wide radiator grille and headlights were placed on the front. The radiator grille and headlights are surrounded by chrome accents to emphasize the width of the tea-lock. It has a sleek design by disposing turn indicators, daytime running lights, and cornering lights respectively through separate housing. The side is equipped with a chrome strip on the roof line from the A-pillar to the C-pillar, reminiscent of the coupe design.

The rear part has a three-story structure that leads to the rear window, 3D design rear lights and bumpers. Through this, the low and wide design was emphasized again. Pressing the Volkswagen logo opens the trunk door. The trunk has a load capacity of 445L, and when the rear seats are folded, it expands to 1290L. The rear seats have legroom that fits comfortably in front of an adult male’s knee, and a wide panoramic sunroof provides excellent openness.

The interior was designed for the digital age. In the digital cockpit, you can check various information along with speed. The 8-inch main touch display is also a bit small and clunky, but it can be used intuitively. The T-lock is equipped with Volkswagen’s latest MIB3 infotainment system, as well as a navigation developed with a domestic map maker. It also has a wide wireless charger and wireless App Connect function so that even large smartphones can be used conveniently. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also supported.

The test drive took place in the Gangnam area of ​​Seoul for about an hour in line with the character of T-Rok as an urban SUV. Unlike the sporty appearance, the starting acceleration and steering were smooth. Ti-Lok is equipped with a 2.0L TDI diesel engine that was applied to Tiguan, and has a maximum output of 150 horsepower and a maximum torque of 34.7 kg.m by front-wheel drive. Because of the difference in size and weight, it was a part where you can expect more agile response than Tiguan. Only diesel models were released, and the fuel economy was 15.1km/L on a combined basis.

Volkswagen explained that it has a zero-back of 8.8 seconds (time from standstill to 100 km/h). However, acceleration at a standstill or low speed was a bit slow due to turbo racks. If the accelerator pedal is depressed deeply, the speed does not immediately increase, but the engine RPM soars and then the speed starts to increase. Only after reaching a certain speed was the expected acceleration. In the city center, I wanted to observe the speed limit of 30-50km/h, and whether the feeling of acceleration meant to enjoy on the highway.

In fact, the Tyrok is equipped with many safety functions in case of accidents that may occur in the city. △ Front Collision Warning and Emergency Braking System △ Proactive Occupant Protection System △ Pedestrian Monitoring System △ Multiple Collision Prevention Brake △ Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Traffic Warning System △ Park Pilot are applied to all trims.

Proactive occupant protection system protects occupants by tightly tightening seat belts and closing windows and sunroofs in the event of an accident. Multiple anti-collision brakes are a function that prevents secondary collisions by activating the braking function to the limit immediately after an accident. The pedestrian monitoring system detects and warns a pedestrian who suddenly jumps into the roadway, and activates the emergency braking function if the driver does not brake.

However, it was lacking in the semi-autonomous driving function, which is widely applied to small SUVs recently. It has an adaptive cruise control (ACC) function at premium or higher, but it has limited usability due to the lack of a restart function after stopping. Domestic specifications do not provide lane maintenance assistance or lane departure prevention functions. Considering that it is a vehicle that targets young drivers who have obtained a relatively recently licensed driver, this is a disappointment.

It is said that the price is also insufficient for Volkswagen’s aim of’popularization of imported cars’. The price of tea-lock is △Style 35.9 million won, △Premium 39.34 million won △Prestige 4,3220,000 won.

Volkswagen explains that the price of Tiroc is up to 15 million won cheaper than Germany, but it remains regrettable that expectations for price policy were excessive as’Zeta’ showed competitiveness against the national car’Avante’ earlier. With the additional discount, the charm of T-Lok is further enhanced, and it is expected to contribute to the popularization of Imports.
