‘Golf Emperor’ Tiger Woods was taken to a hospital in a car rollover accident and underwent leg surgery.

At 7:15 am on the 23rd (local time), Woods was taken to hospital in an accident in Los Angeles County, California, and is currently undergoing leg surgery for a complex fracture, the Associated Press reported.

Woods manager Mark Steinberg said, “Woods was in a car accident and injured several legs. It is currently undergoing surgery.” However, it did not disclose any further status for reasons of privacy.

Woods crashed while driving a car alone. After that, the vehicle rolled down about 10m off the road and onto the hillside. The LA County Sheriff explained that the vehicle was severely damaged and had to mobilize hydraulic vehicle cutting equipment.

This car accident drew intensive attention from the US media. The Associated Press said, “It seems that there is an airbag device in the vehicle, and the debris is scattered on the hillside next to the road,” and said, “The extent of Woods’ injury is not known exactly.” CNN also cited the Sheriff’s Office and reported that “Woods’ vehicle crossed the center line and headed to the opposite lane.”

Woods held the PGA (American Professional Golf Association) Tour Tournament ‘2021 Genesis Invitational’ last week at the Riviera Country Club in California. It is a competition sponsored by the Hyundai Motor Company Genesis brand as a title sponsor. During the PGA Tour, athletes can use the car for free. It is known that Woods was traveling to film a celebrity lesson event.

The cause of the accident is not yet known. Woods was rehabilitated after crashing into a tree while driving a car in 2009, and in 2017, he lost consciousness after eating painkillers and sleeping pills, causing a traffic accident. It is also possible that Woods recently had a fifth back surgery and took painkillers.

A spokesman for the Genesis brand in the United States said, “I am very sorry that Woods was in an accident while riding the GV80,” and “I will pray for Woods and his family.”
