Tiger Woods, expected to take 2-3 months to walk… Even the opinion that golf life is over

[서울=뉴스핌] Reporter Choi Won-jin = It is expected that it will take a long time for Tiger Woods, the’golf emperor’ who injured his legs in a car rollover accident, to recover his health. Some say that his golf life is virtually over.

According to the Washington Post (WP) on the 24th (local time), Woods’ leg injury is likely to require additional treatment and surgery due to a high risk of inflammation in the future.

The day before, after the accident, Woods was transferred to the Harbor-UCL Medical Center in Los Angeles County, California, USA, where he underwent a 10-hour major operation. Woods said his consciousness was awake, responding and recovering.

Dr. Ansi Mahajan, the hospital’s chief medical officer, said in a statement that Woods suffered an open comminuted fracture in the right shin and calf bone. An open comminuted fracture means a bone shattered or a piece protruding from the skin.

Dr. Mahajan announced that a rod was inserted into the calf, and that additional injuries to the foot and ankle bones were combined with screws and pins.

Dr. David L. Hellpet, an orthopedic surgeon in Manhattan, New York, said, “Woods’ injuries don’t end in one surgery.” It was reported that several additional treatments may be required.

The expected recovery period is at least 2-3 months until Woods is able to put strength on his legs and walk, and his life as a golf player is a matter to consider after that.

Dr. Andrew Polak, head of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Maryland State Medical School, said “Weeks to recover from Woods are of the utmost importance.” In the light of his medical experience, sports athletes said, “He’s already recovered from five spinal surgeries. There is hope.”

Some experts say that Woods is 45 years old this year, and this is the 10th surgery in her life, so it is difficult to return. In the case of his left leg, he had already had 4 ligament surgeries and 5 back surgeries over the past 7 years.

Dr. Michael Gardner, director of orthopedic surgery at Stanford Medical Center, told The Associated Press, “Unfortunately, the chances of him returning to professional golf are very, very slim.” It will be a long and difficult journey,” he carefully predicted.
