The Ministry of Employment and Labor began supervising Taeyoung Construction, where three workers died during the three months of this year.
The Ministry of Employment announced on the 22nd that it will begin supervising occupational safety and health for the Taeyoung Construction headquarters and construction sites nationwide.
This is based on the judgment that there may be a problem with the overall safety management system at the headquarters level due to a series of serious accidents in which workers died recently at the Taeyoung Construction site.
In the Taeyoung Construction workshop, three workers died this year alone. In January, a worker was killed by materials at a construction site in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi-do. In February, another crushing accident occurred at a nearby construction site in Gwacheon. On the 19th, another person died in an accident in Guri.
Earlier last month, the Ministry of Employment announced a policy to supervise the headquarters and construction sites nationwide for construction companies that have suffered serious accidents such as worker deaths in a row in 2019 and last year, even if only one serious accident occurs this year. Taeyoung Construction is the first case in which this policy has been applied.
In particular, the Ministry of Employment and Employment plans to intensively check whether the head office has properly implemented safety measures for subcontractors, considering that all workers who died in accidents at the Taeyoung Construction site this year belong to subcontractors. In accordance with the revised Occupational Safety and Health Act, some of the safety obligations for subcontracted workers also apply to the original company.
The Ministry of Employment and Employment decided to visit the Taeyoung Construction site unexpectedly to check whether or not to comply with core safety rules such as wearing workers’ protective gear, and to take serious measures such as judicial action if any illegal matters are discovered.
