Families of Gwangju TCS International School students residing in Suncheon, Jeollanam-do were successively diagnosed with new coronavirus infections (Corona 19).

Since some of these families are likely to have new infection routes that are not related to transmission from Gwangju International School, the quarantine authorities initiated a detailed epidemiological investigation.

According to Jeonnam-do on the 28th, three families living in Suncheon (No. 741-743, Jeollanam-do) among infected students from Gwangju TCS International School were confirmed on that day.

There are 10 students from Jeonnam region attending Gwangju TCS International School, including 7 Suncheon, 2 Jangseong and 1 Wando.

All of them had a diagnostic test in Gwangju, of which 7 were positive and 3 were negative.

The quarantine authorities conducted diagnostic tests on 16 family members of these students, and three Suncheon residents were tested positive that day.

Two of the confirmed cases in Suncheon are the mother and younger sister of a teenage teenager attending Gwangju International School (Jeonnam 741·742), and one is the mother of a 9-year-old child (Jeonnam 743).

The quarantine authorities confirmed that Jeonnam No. 743 visited Gwangju on the 17th of this month and believes that it was infected in the process.

However, in the case of 741 and 742, Jeollanam-do, contact with international school students was one month ago, so they suspect a different source of infection than the spread from international schools.

The quarantine authorities are scrutinizing their movements and contacts, and confirmed that they visited the hospital on No. 743, Jeollanam-do, and initiated quarantine for the hospital.

In a diagnostic survey of 15 unauthorized educational facilities in the province, 524 people were tested negative and 10 are undergoing tests.

However, more than 190 people refused diagnostic tests, are overseas, or have not been contacted, causing a disruption in the epidemiological investigation.

Imja Shinan also tested negative for 115 participants in the English camp, and decided to withdraw from the camp.

Jeonnam-do Health and Welfare Bureau Director Kang Young-gu said, “We are doing our best to block the transmission by identifying the source of infection and the contact person,” he said. “Please actively cooperate with diagnostic tests.”

In the province, infections in the local community continue on the previous day, centering on contacts of the existing confirmed patients, with two persons each in Naju and Suncheon, and one each in Hwasun, Yeongam, Goheung, and Boseong.

The cumulative confirmed cases in the province as of 11 am on the same day were 744, of which 681 were community infections.
