Myanmar Ambassador Joo-Yen, who received attention after criticizing the coup in a speech at the UN General Assembly, did not budge at the dismissal of the military.

According to the Reuters news agency on the 2nd (local time), Myanmar Ambassador Cho Mo Thun sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blincoln and UN General Assembly Chairman Volkan Bozkir, each stating that he was still a legitimate UN ambassador to Myanmar.

“The perpetrators of illegal coups have no power to revoke the president’s legal authorization,” he said in his letter. Explaining that he was appointed as UN ambassador by President Yun Min and State Advisor Aung San Suu Kyi last year, he stressed that “I want to make it clear that I am still the UN ambassador to Myanmar.”

Ambassador Cho Mo Thun spoke at the UN General Assembly on the 26th of last month, saying, “We must immediately end the coup and stop the oppression of innocent citizens. The international community must take necessary steps to restore democracy by returning state power to the people.” Attracted attention. After the speech, he performed a’three-finger salute’ used as a symbol of resistance.

The day after the speech, the military announced the dismissal of the UN ambassador. However, Ambassador Cho Mo Tun is expected to protest against the decision to dismiss. In fact, in a letter to the US Secretary of State Blincoln, he asked for “Continue supporting my work through the immunity privileges customarily accompanied by the ambassadorial position.”

The international community has not recognized the military coup of Myanmar on the 1st of last month. However, there is a possibility that the Myanmar military will appoint a new ambassador to the United Nations. Reuters predicted, “There is a possibility of voting over who is the real Ambassador representing Myanmar.”
