There are 5 people on the vaccine bottle, but 7 people can inoculate… The US FDA is also “alright”

On the 26th, vaccination for a novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) was started for the first time in Korea. Pfizer introduced the vaccine bottle as 5 doses per vial, but it was judged that ‘6~7 doses’ in the actual field was also possible. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) also approved the use of special syringes last month, increasing the number of vaccinations per bottle of Pfizer vaccine from the previous five to six.

In the US last year, 6~7 vaccinations per bottle

In the United States, which started vaccination in December last year earlier than ours, there was a difference in the number of people who can be vaccinated per bottle. On December 16, last year, the health-related media, Stat News, conveyed the atmosphere of the vaccination site at the time through an article under the heading that “Pfizer vaccine is being wasted from day one due to labeling confusion.

Statnews reported, “If the contents (vaccine) are thawed and mixed with a diluent, the field medical staff found that each bottle of the vaccine contains enough vaccine to inoculate up to six times.”

The media said “because there is no clear approval of the manufacturer” for the reason that it is discarded even though it is possible to inoculate one more dose per bottle. Because Pfizer marked the vaccine bottle as 5 vaccinations, the field medical staff pointed out that although 6 vaccinations are possible, the last dose is discarded.

US FDA “You can get 6-7 doses”

As the confusion on the site and the number of possible vaccinations caused by such reports, Reuters reported the contents of the FDA’s official email response, referring to a report by Stat News on December 17 last year.

In its official position at the time, the FDA said, “Considering the current public health emergency, FDA recommends using all vaccines available in each bottle (6 doses, or 7 doses if possible).”

The glass bottle is written in 5 doses, but the FDA’s position is that it is possible to inoculate more than that if the field medical staff can affordably extract the vaccine.

However, the FDA added, “It is important to note that because vaccine bottles do not contain preservatives, the remaining vaccines should not be taken out of several bottles to produce a single batch.” It is acceptable to extract 6 to 7 doses from one bottle, but the FDA has emphasized that the remaining vaccine should not be collected in multiple bottles and finally made into a single dose.

If the K-syringe is added to the medical staff’s skill level,

Pfizer vaccine should not be used as it is. A 0.45 mL vaccine bottle should be diluted with 1.8 mL of normal saline. After dilution, the total dose of the vaccine is 2.25 mL. According to the head of the vaccination management team of the Corona 19 Vaccination Response Promotion Group, Jeong Gyeong-sil on the 27th, generally, one bottle contains a spare amount in consideration of losses due to the site environment. After the actual dilution, the dose of the vaccine will be more than this 2.25 + α (alpha) mL.

Pfizer vaccine should be administered in 0.3 mL doses in the body. In other words, a’minimal residual type’ (LDS) syringe that minimizes the amount of vaccine discarded by minimizing the amount of vaccine discarded by minimizing the space left between the piston (push) and the needle It is calculated that inoculation (0.3 × 7 = 2.1 mL) can be performed.
