The US Treasury Department said, “We have taken this action in response to the military coup targeting the democratically elected Burmese (formerly Myanmar’s former name) civilian government and the brutal slaughter of protesters.”
According to Reuters, among the six companies that were blacklisted this time, A&M Mahar, managed by Hlaing’s son, was also included.
Justice for Myanmar, a human rights organization, revealed that A&M, a medical service provider, took advantage of the approval and customs clearance of medicines and medical devices by the Myanmar Food and Drug Administration.
Hlaing’s son, who owns a number of companies including construction companies and insurance companies, is also the major shareholder of Mattel, a state-run telecommunications company.

‘Justice for Myanmar’ said, “Since 2011, Min Aung Hlaing, who has been in charge of commander in chief, has abused state and military power to benefit his family.”
Supreme Commander Hlaing was previously subject to US sanctions on the 11th of last month.
Recently, the United States put pressure on the Myanmar Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Interior, Myanmar Economic Enterprise (MEC), and Myanmar Economic Holding Company (MEHL) on the export control blacklist, but the Myanmar military is not concerned.
Human Rights Watch’s director of Asia, John Shifton, praised the Treasury’s actions, but urged the need for stronger sanctions.
The UK is also considering additional sanctions against Myanmar.
British Foreign Minister Dominic Rab tweeted immediately after the US imposed the sanctions. “The UK is also considering imposing additional sanctions.” “Our position is clear that the Myanmar regime should not benefit from abuse of power and human rights violations.” Revealed.
After the Myanmar military took power in a coup on the 1st of last month, it hardly suppressed protests against it, killing more than 60 people so far.

Meanwhile, the UN Security Council (Security Council) unanimously agreed with a statement condemning the suppression of violence by the Myanmar military forces of protesters.
In a statement on the 10th (local time), the Security Council urged the Myanmar military to’extreme restraint’, saying, “I strongly condemn the use of violence against peace protesters, including women, youth and children.”
All 15 member states, including China, which were relatively friendly to the Myanmar military, agreed. This statement is officially adopted as the’Chairman’s Name’.
The chairman’s statement remains in the official record of the Security Council as a step below the resolution. Earlier, the Security Council issued a statement last month expressing “deep concerns” regarding the Myanmar coup, but this is the first statement of the chairman.
However, the contents of the statement on the day were significantly withdrawn compared to the draft drafted by the UK, the Associated Press reported.
The draft stipulated the military action as a’coup’ and mentioned the possibility of UN sanctions, but this content was omitted in the revised version. The Associated Press reported, citing diplomatic sources, that the contents were revised due to opposition from China, Russia, India and Vietnam.
