(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Song Soo-kyung, Shin Yuri = The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has announced that it is mandatory for all passengers on flights departing from the UK to test negative for coronavirus infection (Corona 19) on the 24th (local time). The communication reported.

CDC said in a statement that day that all passengers departing from the UK to the US must receive a negative Corona 19 test within 72 hours before departure.

This is due to concerns about the spread of COVID-19 strains in the UK, and the action will take effect from the 28th, next Monday, CDC said.

The U.S. government announced on the 22nd that it did not plan to mandate the inspection of immigrants from the UK.

With the addition of the United States, it is noteworthy whether the restrictions on entry from the UK will spread more globally.

The negative test should be performed by PCR (gene amplification) or antigen test.

CDC explained the background that “the virus continues to mutate, and initial analysis in the UK shows that the new strain is up to 70% more infectious than the existing strain,” the CDC explained.

The CDC also noted that in March, President Trump restricted entry to almost all foreigners who visited the UK within 14 days. At the time, flights from the United Kingdom to the United States fell by 90%.

Accordingly, passengers departing from the UK to the US are required to submit the negative results to the airline in paper or electronic form.

The airline must confirm the negative judgment of all passengers before boarding, and denial of boarding is mandatory for passengers who have not undergone a checkup.

Earlier, three airlines, Delta, British Airways, and Virgin Atlantic, agreed to mandate negative tests for passengers departing from New York State and the United Kingdom to New York starting on the 24th.
