Discussions on the unification of candidates for the Seoul mayor’s by-election for pan-passports began.
In addition, as the Democratic Party and the Open Democratic Party primary candidates expressed their approving for the unification of the candidates and further consolidation of the party party, it is noteworthy whether discussions at the party level will ignite.
Candidate Sang-ho Woo of the Democratic Party and Bong-ju Chung of the Open Democratic Party, who were running for the mayor of Seoul, met at the National Assembly on the 7th and agreed to unify the candidates on the premise of consolidation of the two parties.
They said they agreed to promote the integration of the two parties before the re-election, but if that is difficult, they agree to make a declaration of integration.
Candidate Woo said, “It was inevitable that the Democratic Party and the Open Democratic Party were divided during the last general election,” he said. “Because it is time to prepare for the victory and re-government of the re-election, we have to hold hands in the big frame.”
Candidate Jung emphasized that it was “an inevitable strategic separation” for the founding of the Open Democratic Party and that “only unity and unity will live.”
Democratic Party candidate Park Young-seon met with reporters on this day and said, “I already agreed to the unification of both parties,” saying, “The sooner the better, the better.”
Regarding the unity of the party, he replied, “It is a matter to be decided by the party leadership, but I agree.”
Earlier, Candidate Jin-ae Kim of the Open Democratic Party also expressed his support for the unification of the candidate.

The Democratic Party’s leadership has not yet announced its official position on the unification of candidates or the unity of the party’s party, and has maintained a prudent stance.
An official from the leadership said, “It is the candidate’s personal opinion, and the party has not discussed it in detail yet,” he said. “Once the party’s candidate comes out, we can discuss it afterward.”
As Democratic Party candidates are in favor of unification and voices of sympathy for the necessity are growing within the party, it is observed that the discussion of candidate unification is a matter of time.
In a situation where the opposition party attempts to unite the pan-conservative camp through the unification of the candidates, the pan-conservative camp should also create a one-on-one composition through unification.
In a situation where the Justice Party decided not to nominate candidates for the sexual harassment of former representative Kim Jong-cheol, the first priority is to unify the candidates with the Open Democratic Party, which consistently gains 6-7% party approval in public opinion polls.
However, it is unclear whether the consolidation of the party will take place before re-election.
Even if the unification of candidates is promoted, consensus is formed only in the direction of consolidation before re-election, but the timing may be delayed afterwards.
A Democratic Party official said, “Even if we consider the physical time and procedure, integration before the re-election is difficult,” he said. “It is a matter to be judged in the presidential election phase.”
