Gwangju District Prosecutor General Prosecutor Jeong Jin-woong, who was accused of assaulting Prosecutor Han Dong-hoon during the seizure and search process, claimed innocence again in court, saying that he did not intend to assault, but was an act of concern for the destruction of evidence.

Deputy Prosecutor Chung explained the situation at the time of the case, saying, “A prosecutor is restraining attempts to send messages to the outside,” in a trial on charges of self-defense held at the hearing of the 22nd Division of the Seoul Central District Court’s Criminal Agreement (Judge Yang Cheol-han).

He added, “In the process of seizure and search, (communication) is restrained as a necessary measure,” he argued. “All actions at the time were due to concern for destruction of evidence, not to assault anyone.”

Deputy Prosecutor Chung’s argument came out in the process of explaining a video filmed immediately after a struggle with a prosecutor during the seizure and search.

Deputy Prosecutor Chung was handed over to trial in October last year on charges of assaulting a prosecutor in the process of seizing and searching a prosecutor’s mobile phone SIM chip in connection with the attempted coercion of former Channel A reporter Lee Dong-jae.

At the trial on that day, investigator A, who accompanied Prosecutor Chung at the time of the seizure and search, was present as a witness, and evidence was investigated for the video taken immediately after the struggle between Prosecutor Chung and Prosecutor Han.

Mr. A replied to the prosecution’s question, asking if a prosecutor at the time had engaged in a suspicious behavior that is difficult to see as a normal behavior in the search for seizure, with the effect that he did not know well, saying, “I did not keep that in mind.”

According to Mr. A’s explanation, during the seizure and search, when a prosecutor picked up his mobile phone, chief prosecutor Jeong reached out to his mobile phone, saying,’You should not do this.’ I leaned back.

Afterwards, Deputy Prosecutor Chung reached out to the cell phone again and leaned toward one of the prosecutors, and the two fell together. One prosecutor fell to the floor and screamed’Ah’ several times.

Immediately after the struggle, in a video filmed by an officer of the Legal Affairs and Training Institute and a prosecutor’s office, one prosecutor strongly protested to Deputy Prosecutor Chung, saying, “Do you still see any marks on his arm?” and “You grabbed my arm and knocked it over”.

At the trial held on the 19th of this month, the court plans to call the prosecutor who accompanied Prosecutor Chung at the site of the seizure and search as a witness to interrogate, and then call a prosecutor at the next trial as a witness.

Considering that the trial is usually held every two to three weeks, one prosecutor is likely to be in court next month.
