Dick Hoyt, the strongest father in the world, who moved around the world with his paralyzed son in a wheelchair, moved around the world and passed away at the age of 80.

The Associated Press reported that Hoyt went to Yeongmyeon while sleeping at his home in Holland, Massachusetts on the 17th (local time). Family members said he had heart disease.

Hoyt’s son, Rick, was severely handicapped when he was born with an umbilical cord wrapped around his neck, and the supply of oxygen to the brain was interrupted. You cannot move your body on your own or express your intentions without a computer device. Rick, who had a lot of interest in sports from a young age, told his father when he was 15, “I want to participate in a charity running competition for disabled lacrosse players.” did. The Hoit rich man entered the finish line for the second time, and’Team Hoit’ began.

Rick said, “Father, when I’m running, I feel like I don’t have any disabilities,” and Hoyt couldn’t stop for a son like this.

Tim Hoit completed a total of 1130 competitions in 40 years from 1977 to 2016, including 72 marathons, 257 triathlons (6 iron man courses), and 22 duathlons. In 1992, he crossed the continental United States (total of 6010 km) by cycling and running over 45 days.

Among the world’s strongest iron men, the father swims in the sea with a rubber boat carrying his son tied to his waist, and rides a bicycle equipped with a special chair on which his son sits.

The marathon record, which took 16 hours and 14 minutes to complete the first race, was 2 hours 40 minutes 47 seconds, and the triathlon record was shortened to 13 hours 43 minutes 37 seconds, respectively.

In response to the reaction of people around him that an amazing record would come out if he participated without a son, Hoyt cut out, saying, “There is no reason to do it unless it is Rick.” Those who looked at the rich man with uncomfortable eyes at first started cheering with applause. The membership of the charity foundation Tim Hoit was increasing, and in 2013 a statue of the rich Hoit was erected near the starting line of the Boston Marathon.

Whenever Rick shared his experiences, “I would have never been able to do anything without my father. My father used to say, “The wind that supports under my wings.”

Hoyt has two more sons besides Rick, Russell and Robert. “It sounds like a cliche, but my father was the hero of all of us,” Russell said. He was a great father who treated and loved the three brothers equally regardless of their disabilities.”

The news of Hoyt’s death has led to a wave of commemoration from all walks of life.

“He was a real iron man,” said Steve Burton, sports director of the Boston Regional Broadcasting WBZ. When he was sick, he looked at his son, Rick, and made a new decision.”
