As egg prices rose rapidly due to the influence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (AI), the price of one plate rose to 7,350 won. Although the government urgently increased supply, such as importing US-made eggs, there are not many quantities, so it is not enough to meet the price of eggs.
According to the livestock distribution information of the Livestock Products Quality Assessment Service on the 31st, the consumer price of an egg (30 special eggs) as of the 29th recorded 7,350 won, up 97 won from the previous day. On the 27th, it rose 8.7% from 6,761 won. It was 37.7% higher than the average year, up 30.6% from the previous month.
Although the government is supplying supplies to stabilize prices, egg prices are constantly rising. On the 26th, the government imported 60 tons (approximately 1.01 million pieces) of fresh US-made eggs and distributed them on the market, and is supplying 2 million stocks in stages through the Agricultural Cooperatives. The market believes that egg prices are not stabilizing as poultry killings are increasing due to AI, etc., with insufficient government supply.
Ahead of the Lunar New Year, the prices of fruits such as apples and pears are also rising. According to the Korea Agricultural and Fishery Food Distribution Corporation (aT) agricultural product distribution information, the retail price of 10 Fuji Apple products was 33,511 won as of the 29th. It is more than 10,000 won more than the average price of 21,299 won. The retail price of 10 new pear products is also 47,808 won, which is higher than the average year (31,345 won). The retail price of 10 sweet persimmon products is also 13,625 won, which is 10,000 won higher than the average year (10,33 won).
The Korea Rural Economic Research Institute’s Agricultural Observation Headquarters recently said, “The shipments of major fruits such as apples, pears, sweet persimmons, etc. will decrease ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, so prices will be higher than last year.”
