While the SBS drama’Choseongu Masa’ was abolished due to controversy over history distortion, the replay service of the TVN weekend drama’Queen Iron Man’, the previous work of the artist, was suddenly stopped.
Currently, the replay of’Queen Iron Man’ has been discontinued on all platforms. CJ ENM’s online video service (OTT)’tving’, as well as video services provided by portals such as Naver and Daum, have disappeared. CJ ENM has not entered the position as of the 28th.
The fantasy drama’Queen Iron Man’, which stands for a’time slip comic fusion historical drama’, depicts what happens as the soul of a modern male chef dwells in the body of Kim, the iron man queen of the Joseon Dynasty. While the drama was unfolding, it was pointed out that he made a caricature of the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty and the Jongmyo jeryeak, or that he portrayed real people, including Queen Shinjeong, in a negative way.
In particular, the criticism of remake of the original’Hungry Artist’ ignited the controversy. This drama purchased the copyright of the Chinese web drama “Petus Biseungsikgi” and borrowed the setting that “the soul of a modern male enters Zhongtian”. It is said that the original author, Xian-cheng, has been disrespectful of Goryeo in other works (Hwachin Princess) in the past. Afterwards, the production crew issued an apology and deleted some of the problematic scenes from the VOD.
The Korea Communications Standards Commission also voted on a “recommendation” that corresponds to the administrative guidance of Queen Chul-in in January. The Broadcasting Deliberation Subcommittee of the Korea Communications Commission said, “Even considering the characteristics of the program, the broadcast is a drama. In contrast, it caused discomfort, but it took into account the follow-up treatment of the production team, such as improving these problems in the later production process.”
However, Queen Ironman has achieved success in terms of viewership, receiving support from some viewers of’fantasy, not historical dramas’ in the cast of the cast. The audience rating, which started at the 8% level, rose throughout the airing period and recorded 17.4% (Nielsen Korea) in the 20th episode, which was the last episode. Currently, there is a surge of opinions on drama-related bulletin boards such as portals that the replay service should be provided along with criticism of the drama.
However, the breathtaking success of Queen Iron Man did not lead to’Chosun Gumasa’. While the Joseon Gumasa was stopped broadcasting after the second episode, writer Park Gye-ok wrote, “I sincerely apologize for causing deep concern to viewers over the past few days with poorly thoughtful writing.”
Park said, “Even though I had to show sufficient respect for the founding heroes of Joseon, who left a big mark in history, I am greatly reflecting on the easy judgment that I leaned on the genre of fantasy. The distortion of history has never been intended, but as a result, I will remember and not forget the point that left a deep scar on you, too, with a heart carved into your bones.”
He said, “I bow my head and apologize to the directors, actors, and staff who have worked hard to make a good drama in the field, and also to the production company and the broadcaster.”
