Newborn puppies endure the cold as they curl up in their mother’s arms. One of them is not able to withstand the harsh environment and is lying dead on the iron plate. Other puppies are feeding their mothers next to them.

This is the horrific interior of a so-called’dog egg park’ dog farm that is suspected of illegally breeding more than 400 dogs aiming for compensation for new city development. This dog farm is scheduled to be demolished before the Lunar New Year holidays. What will be the fate of the puppies?

When I went back to Namyangju Albakgi Dog Farm

On the 2nd, Anything shared the story of an illegal edible dog farm in Wangsuk District, Namyangju. After the report, many people left comments with regrets such as “I sincerely hope that the dogs will be rescued”. What happened to the dog farm after that?

Save Korean Dogs, an animal rescue organization, recently visited the site again. A strong cold wave lasted for a long time and even heavy snow fell, making the inside of the dog farm more devastating. Even dozens of newborn babies were dying unattended.

“The mothers continue to give birth, and when we enter, there are babies who are dead. It was just on the iron plate if it was frozen and dead.” -Eun-Young Choi Director of Save Korean Dogs

As the controversy grew, Namyangju City also began to come up with measures. As it is an illegal facility that has been subject to administrative dispositions many times, it is a position that it will be demolished before the Lunar New Year holidays without any compensation.

Namyangju City Mayor Jo Kwang-han held a joint countermeasure meeting with related departments on the 12th, and ordered illegal dog farms and neighboring breeding dog auction sites to “take strong administrative measures through legal administrative procedures”. The policy is “If voluntary demolition fails, administrative consortium execution will be immortal.”

The problem is that only the facilities are demolished, and there are no protective measures for the dogs on the farm. An official from Namyangju said, “Dogs are private property, so if you want to bring them, you have to pay money from the city to buy them, but there is no budget prepared.” When asked if it is possible to take emergency quarantine measures due to animal cruelty, he said, “It is difficult because it is not a general pet or breed dog, and there is no clear circumstances of animal abuse.”

Farmers are demanding money in exchange for giving up ownership of their dogs. It is said that over 300 dogs have already been sold to other dog farms. The 100 or so dogs left on the dog farm do not know when they will be sold.

“It was messy with dirt at the time of rescue”… No signs of abuse

Save Korean Dox is taking care of only some mothers and babies that are in need of protection. On the 22nd, when I went to the shelter in Gimpo-si, Gyeonggi-do, dogs who had not even opened their eyes were feeding their mothers. The mother dog is on the lookout for fear that the shelter is still unfamiliar.

At the time of rescue, four puppies are said to have died as they were already weakened by malnutrition and hypothermia at the time of rescue.

“The puppies were wet because they were in a messy state. So I first dried it with a dryer and gave artificial respiration, but in the end I couldn’t stand it and left.” -Eli / Save Korean Dox Shelter Manager

There were also traces of suspected abuse in rescued dogs. A week after the rescue, the ships of the dead dog were full of parasites and stones. Some dogs are waiting for surgery because the wound that appears to have been punctured repeatedly has not healed.

Save Korean Dogs CEO Kim Na-mi said, “I would like to bring in the 100 dogs left on the farm as soon as possible, but the amount offered by the farmer and the hospital expenses to be borne after the rescue are very difficult.” I did.
