[토요경제=문혜원 기자] It was found that the average annual salary of the four major commercial banks in Korea reached 100 million won last year. On the other hand, as the number of employees continued to decline, it fell to the 57,000 level.

This is an analysis that as non-face-to-face finance is rapidly expanding in the aftermath of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19), the consolidation and reduction of branch offices is also accelerating along with manpower reduction.

According to a business report of four major commercial banks, including KB Kookmin, Shinhan, Hana, and Woori, on the 21st, the average salary for each employee of the four banks was estimated at 98 million won last year. The salaries of bank employees are steadily increasing year by year. The average annual salary in 2017 was 92.5 million won, but it rose to 93 million won in 2018 and 95.5 million won in 2019.

Kookmin Bank’s average annual salary was 140 million won, the highest among the four banks. Hana Bank followed with 97 million won, followed by Shinhan Bank (96 million won) and Woori Bank (95 million won).

Kookmin Bank also saw the highest increase in average salary, an increase of 13 million won compared to the previous year. Woori Bank increased by 8 million won, and Shinhan and Hana Bank increased by 5 million won each.

On the other hand, the number of bank employees and branches continues to decline. The number of employees in the four major banks was 61,457 in 2017, 59,586 in 2018, 59072 in 2019, and 57,896 last year.

As of last year, Kookmin Bank had the largest number of employees with 11,765, followed by Shinhan Bank with 14,063, Woori Bank with 13,993 and Hana Bank with 12,533.

The number of four major bank branches decreased from 3563 in 2018 to 3525 in 2019 and 3303 last year. Kookmin Bank also had the largest number of branches with 972, followed by Shinhan (859), Woori (821), and Hana (651).
