Military authorities are holding and investigating a North Korean man at a checkpoint near the East Sea Civilian Control Line (Civil Control Line) on the 16th.

It is pointed out that during the first interrogation by the military, it has revealed another flaw in the military’s frontline border and surveillance network as it is believed to be a North Korean male.

According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, a suspected North Korean man moving south from the East Sea Civil Control Line around 4:20 am was caught on closed circuit (CC) TV.

So, the military deployed operational forces and secured the man’s recruits at around 7:20 am.

In the process, the military issued the’One Jindo Dog’, an anti-invasion warning order, and then lifted it.

This man, known as his early 20s, is known to have expressed his intention to defect during the investigation.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff said, “Investigation is underway in cooperation with related agencies on details such as the southward process and defection status,” and said, “We are checking the overall alert posture, including the coastal boundary of the region.”

The Joint Chiefs of Staff is mindful of the possibility that this man may have crossed over land as well as by sea.

A joint official said, “Additional confirmation is needed, including the possibility of coming by sea.”

The unit in which this incident took place was the place where a North Korean man’s defection from a North Korean soldier last November and a so-called “knock defection” in October 2012 when a North Korean soldier knocked on the door of a military post to indicate his intention to defect.

The Joint Warfare Posture Inspection Office is conducting an on-site investigation in cooperation with the Ground Operations Command to see if there were any problems with the alert posture.

A joint official said, “I will accurately check and explain the overall alert posture.”
