People in their 40s and 50s who live in social life have recently been identified as a major source of transmission within families of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19).
As a result of analyzing the characteristics of the transmission of Corona 19 to 15,111 confirmed cases in Korea in the last month (November 20-December 16), the Central Defense Response Headquarters found that 24.2% (3654) were good in their families. It was found that it was infected through a confirmed person. In particular, 43.5% (766) of the 1761 confirmed patients aged 0-19 that occurred during the same period were found to have been infected through secondary transmission within their families.
The age groups that accounted for the largest proportion of those in the family were in their 40s (32.0%) and 50s (29.9%). Jung Eun-kyung, head of Bang Dae-bon, said at a briefing on the 26th, “After they are infected through social life, it is estimated that they are spread to spouses, children, and parents in the family.”
As the third corona19 epidemic began in earnest last month, the spread of corona due to contact with family and acquaintances is on the rise. It is easy to quarantine and follow-up for outbreaks, but small-scale outbreaks in local communities cannot identify the source of infection, making it difficult to investigate.
In particular, even if social distancing is strengthened, meetings between family and acquaintances are less affected. When the spread from the club in Itaewon, Seoul in May last year, there was a case of “family infection” spreading to parents and grandparents after children in their teens and 20s were diagnosed with coronavirus. Now, it seems that the people in their 40s and 50s are the main axis.
As a result of a total of 11,169 infection routes reported by Bang Dae-bon for the last two weeks (December 13-26), the proportion of contacts with prior confirmed patients was the most at 39.6%. The quarantine authorities are urging that “if you have suspected coronavirus symptoms, get tested immediately” in order to block the spread between family and acquaintances.
