The cold wave from the Arctic reached its peak on the 8th. The lowest morning temperature in Seoul was found to be the lowest in 35 years since 1986. Some regions where the minimum temperature in the morning fell below -20 degrees Celsius, such as Gangwon Daegwanryeong, Chuncheon, and Jeolla Jangsu.

According to the Meteorological Administration, the minimum temperature in the morning of Seoul was 18.6 degrees below zero, the lowest since 1986. When looking at the minimum temperature in Seoul since 1980, 1986 was the lowest at -19.2 degrees Celsius, followed by 2001 (18.6 degrees below -zero), which was the same as in 2001.

In many areas, the temperature has fallen below -20 degrees Celsius. At 8 o’clock, the temperature is 24.3 degrees below zero in Daegwallyeong, Gangwon-do, 21.1 degrees below zero in Cheorwon, Gangwon, 24.1 degrees below zero in Jangsu, Jeolla, 21.3 degrees below zero in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, 21.8 degrees below zero in Imsil, Jeonbuk, and 21.1 degrees below zero in Geumsan, Chungnam. Wind blows in many areas, and the perceived temperature is about 5-10 degrees lower than the actual temperature.

The heavy snow warning has been in effect in Jeonnam, Jeju, Ulleungdo and Dokdo. Looking at the snow accumulated in these areas from the 6th to 6am on this day, it is 31.1cm in Eorimok in Hallasan, Jeju 16.6cm in Seongsan in Jeju, 13.1cm in Jindo in Jeollanam-do, and 11.5cm in Yeonggwang in Jeollanam-do.

The Meteorological Administration predicted on the 4th that “Friday morning on the 8th, the temperature will fall below -20 degrees Celsius in some central regions, which will be the biggest peak of this week’s cold wave.”

The Meteorological Administration said, “In areas where snow has piled up, there will be many places where the sidewalks and roads are slippery due to snow freezing. In particular, it is difficult to pass on hills and slopes, so you should pay special attention to traffic safety on the way to work and pedestrian safety.”
