An additional confirmed case of a novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) occurred at’The Hyundai Seoul’, the largest department store in Seoul, which opened in Yeouido, Seoul on the 26th of last month.

On the 28th of last month, one worker at the third floor store was confirmed.

According to Yeongdeungpo-gu on the 15th, one of the workers on the 2nd floor of’The Hyundai Seoul’ was confirmed as Corona 19 on the 8th. All other employees who worked with were tested negative.

An official at Hyundai Department Store said, “It was a matter that occurred a week ago, and after the occurrence, the information was quickly disseminated to employees through in-house broadcasting, etc.” I said.

Since the opening,’The Hyundai Seoul’ has been crowded day after day. According to the Hyundai Department Store, after opening, 40,000 to 50,000 people on average per day on weekdays and 80,000 to 90,000 on average on weekends have visited. It’s a cumulative one million people have gone there. There are still hundreds of people in queue at major stores.

Concerns about quarantine emerged as’The Hyundai Seoul’ emerged as a so-called’hot place’ while the number of corona 19 confirmed patients did not decrease.

At the request of Yeongdeungpo-gu,’The Hyundai Seoul’ side is implementing a two-part system on weekends for one month in March, reducing the number of simultaneous customers in stores by 30%, and introducing a pre-reservation system to prevent line-ups.

In addition, last weekend, about 30 employees were put in to check the distance between customers in the store and partitions in public spaces. Employees were placed on each floor, and 10 dedicated personnel were separately assigned to 159 food service establishments, especially where there is a high risk of infection.

An official in Yeongdeungpo-gu said, “We are implementing strict quarantine measures such as putting employees on weekends, and we plan to prepare additional measures in the future.”
