The government and the wind power industry discuss carbon-neutral policy tasks-Today Energy

Held a wind power round table

[투데이에너지 송명규 기자] The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (Minister Sung Yun-mo) organized the’Wind Power Round Table’, a public-private communication channel in the wind power sector, following the’Solar Power Round Table’ on the 23rd to realize carbon neutrality in 2050, and held the first meeting on the 26th.

The wind power roundtable held in Dalgaebi, Seoul, was composed of the government, public institutions, industry, academia, and research experts, and was created to share the government’s carbon neutral policy direction and to discover and discuss various policy demands for carbon neutrality.

Wind power generation is essential for achieving carbon neutrality and achieving the 3020 target for renewable energy, and is expected to occupy a high proportion of renewable energy sources worldwide due to its rapid growth potential. According to the Global Wind Report, the world’s offshore wind power is expected to install 29.1GW as of the end of 2019, mainly in Europe and China, and 177GW cumulative installation in 2030. In addition, according to IRENA, from 2040, offshore wind power is expected to become the number one energy source in terms of power generation in Europe.

In Korea, the speed of wind power supply is still slow, but the spread of wind power is expected to expand through the introduction of a wind power license integration organization (one-stop shop) and the promotion of large-scale offshore wind power led by local governments.

At this meeting, △The progress of the wind power policy and the plan to promote carbon neutrality (Ministry of Industry) △The direction of carbon neutrality and the prospect of the contribution of wind power (Korea Energy Economics Institute) △The project of industrialization of carbon neutrality and wind power generation (Korea Energy Research Institute) was presented and attended the meeting Industry, academia, and research experts expressed their opinions on the role of wind power generation in realizing carbon neutrality and future policy issues.

Mainly, △Installation of a one-stop shop for batch processing of wind power licenses △Expansion of site potential and maximum utilization △Rec system improvement and R&D support for competitiveness improvement, △Smooth system connection, etc. were presented as key tasks.

The tasks discussed in the wind power roundtable will be reviewed and utilized to establish a 2050 carbon neutral scenario (June 2021) and an energy carbon neutral innovation strategy (end 2021) to actively support the realization of carbon neutrality.

Renewable Energy Policy Director Choi Woo-seok said, “For the implementation of 2050 carbon neutrality, wind power generation with high potential and great economic effect requires close cooperation between the government and industry to expand the supply of wind power. · The government plans to work together on a plan to implement carbon neutrality.”
