[기계신문] According to the Korea Battery Industry Association, key indicators such as production, export, and domestic demand for secondary batteries such as lithium-ion batteries and lead-acid batteries rose significantly in 2020 despite the deteriorating economic situation caused by Corona 19.

In 2020, the global secondary battery production scale of domestic companies was 23.3 trillion won, a 20% increase from 19.4 trillion won in 2019, and exports rose to 7.22 trillion won (6.57 billion dollars, 2.9%↑) for 5 consecutive years, and the total export of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles. Tow.

Domestic demand also increased by 11.6% year-on-year to 5.27 trillion won, which is a major factor because the demand for lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles increased along with the increase in domestic electric vehicle production.

As the global electric vehicle (EV) market scale has expanded, domestic companies’ production, export, and domestic demand have all increased, centering on lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles, and this has led Korean companies to take the lead in the rapidly growing electric vehicle battery market in major countries such as Europe, the United States, and China. It is evaluated as the result of the enemy response.

The market share of major domestic secondary battery makers such as LG Energy Solution, Samsung SDI, and SK Innovation has also improved significantly. As of November 2020, the combined market share of the three companies was 34%, which is more than doubled from 16% in 2019.

This year, the demand for rechargeable batteries is expected to increase significantly as downstream industries such as electric vehicles and ESS are expanding due to eco-friendly policies of major countries such as Europe, the United States, and China.

In response to the expansion of the secondary battery market, competition is heating up, such as expanding competitive facility investment and entering the market by new companies, but for the time being, it is expected that the system centered on the top six companies in Korea, China and Japan will continue.

In 2021, domestic companies’ secondary battery production is expected to reach 30.7 trillion won, an increase of 32.0% from 23.3 trillion won in 2020, and exports are also projected to increase by 5.7% to 7 billion dollars. The domestic market for secondary batteries in 2021 is expected to reach 6.3 trillion won (19.8%↑) due to the launch of an electric vehicle platform (Hyundai E-GMP) and new models.

In this situation, Vice Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Park Jin-gyu visited Misomsystech, a secondary battery solution company on Monday, to encourage employees and emphasize the government’s willingness to foster the secondary battery industry.

Misumsystech Co., Ltd. is producing secondary battery battery management system (BMS) and battery packs, starting with secondary battery inspection equipment, and recently completed the development of battery packs for electric motorcycle battery replacement platform.

The battery-replaceable platform is a system that safely charges and efficiently manages the battery through a common charging facility instead of individual chargers for personal mobility (PM, Personal Mobility, electric motorcycles, electric bicycles, kickboards, etc.). Short mileage, long charging It is expected as a way to improve the problems of existing electric motorcycles such as time and compatibility between batteries.
