This year, the UK, the chairman of seven major countries (G7), will hold a face-to-face summit in June. The face-to-face G7 Summit was held in two years, and Korea received an official invitation as a guest.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson issued a statement on the 16th (local time) and announced that the G7 Summit will be held on June 11-13 at Carbis Bay, a resort in Cornwall in southwest England.

Prime Minister Johnson said, “This G7 Summit will create a consensus that will restore the global economy from the shockwaves of the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) in free trade and in a sustainable way.” The BBC reported that at the G7 summit, global debt and climate change will be dealt with along with the problems after Corona 19 response and recovery.

South Korea, Australia, India, and the European Union (EU) were invited to the G7 summit as guests, and it is expected that the next US president-elect Joe Biden will make his official debut on the G7 diplomatic arena after taking office. British Sunday Telegraph said, “I don’t think he (Biden) will visit any other country except maybe Canada before the G7,” a British government source said.

In addition, it will be the last G7 diplomatic stage for German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who is expected to drop the post of prime minister soon, according to German dpa news agency.

The official face-to-face G7 summit was held in Biarritz, France in the summer of 2019, two years later, and was scheduled to be held last year in the U.S., which was the presidency, under President Donald Trump, but it was canceled due to the corona 19 incident.

The G7 is a council made up of the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Canada and Japan.
