On the way to work on the first day of preparation for the personnel hearing, candidate Eui-yong of the foreign minister re-emphasized his will to pursue the existing peace process strategy on the Korean Peninsula.

Candidate Jung said to the reporters, “It’s an honor personally, but I feel a great sense of responsibility because our diplomatic environment is difficult,” and said, “If we are appointed after all procedures, Moon Jae-in He said, “I will do my best so that the foreign policy promoted by the government can bear fruit and the peace process on the Korean Peninsula can take root.” He also added, “I think this is my last chance to serve the country.” This was the same as the nomination sent to the reporters in writing through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs the day before.

On the 20th, President Moon Jae-in nominated candidate Jung as the replacement of Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-hwa. He served as the head of the National Security Office from the early days of the Moon Jae-in administration until July of last year, coordinating the inter-Korean summit and the US-North Korea summit.

The ruling and opposition parties’ evaluation of Candidate Chung was mixed. At the policy coordination meeting, Kim Tae-nyeon, together with Democratic Party representative, evaluated candidate Jung as “the best person to reactivate the peace process on the Korean peninsula”, while in-hospital representative Joo Ho-young cut it off as “to meet North Korean taste” on a radio broadcast I got off.
