During the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics, speed skating players Kim Bo-reum and Rohn-young, who were controversial over teamwork issues, recently started a court battle. The 36th Division of the Civil Agreement of the Seoul Central District Court (Director Soon-Hyun Hwang) held the first defense of the lawsuit on the morning of the 20th. On this day, the trial was conducted without two players, with only two legal representatives present.
Mr. Roh’s agent refuted Mr. Kim’s claim, saying, “The defendant (Roh) did not give false interviews.” In addition, he said, “The defendant will also file a counterclaim in consideration of the mental pain caused by the false interview of the plaintiff (Mr. Kim).”
Regarding Mr. Kim’s assertion that there was Mr. Roh’s violent remarks, “The defendant was four years older than the plaintiff, and he did not violate the social norms even if there was violent verbal abuse.” “Even if it is illegal, the extinctive prescription was completed. I wonder if it is correct to claim damages.”
Mr. Roh argued, “It is also questionable whether the plaintiff is actually proceeding with the lawsuit or whether the Korea Ice Skating Federation is carrying out the plaintiff’s name as a proxy.” In response, Mr. Kim refuted, saying, “Please refrain from saying that it is an association-level lawsuit.”
The judiciary is scheduled to resume pleading on March 17.
