After the Corona 19 crisis, exports to Korea, which relied on semiconductors driven by the growth of the non-face-to-face industry, are showing a rapid recovery thanks to the sprint of automobiles, led by eco-friendly vehicles such as electric vehicles.

According to the monthly trends in the automobile industry in January released by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on the 15th, the number of eco-friendly vehicles exported last month recorded 32,035 units, up 76.5% from the same month last year. In terms of exports, it increased 100% compared to January of last year, reaching a record high of $900 million.

The proportion of eco-friendly cars out of the total passenger car exports was 17.3%, an increase of 4.5 percentage points in a year. The share of exports rose 6.8 percentage points to 22.6%. Eco-friendly vehicles are classified as high value-added vehicles compared to internal combustion engines.

In particular, electric vehicle exports have increased for 42 consecutive months, emerging as a new export engine. Last month, the total number of electric vehicles exported was 9571 units, an increase of 57.7% compared to 7264 units in January last year. In particular, Kia’s electric car’Niro’ accounted for 64.6% of the total electric car exports last month by exporting 6183 units, up 379.7% from the same month last year.

Thanks to the boom in eco-friendly cars, automobile exports are expected to continue to increase. On the 1st to 10th, exports amounted to $17.9 billion, up 69.1% from the same period last year. By item, exports of semiconductors (57.9%), wireless communication devices (88.0%), passenger cars (102.4%), automobile parts (80.6%), and petroleum products (37.5%) were strong.

By export partner, exports to major markets such as China (65.7%), the United States (91.4%), the European Union (EU 126.1%), Vietnam (64.3%), Japan (43.5%), and the Middle East (29.2%) are largely exported. Increased to.
