It is the last day of 2020, but due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19), it has become difficult to see the year-end atmosphere as usual in downtown Seoul.
The main downtown area in Seoul, which would normally be crowded with the New Year’s’Countdown’ event, seems to be busy.
On the last day of the year at 7 p.m. on the 31st, in front of Bosingak, which was crowded with citizens who wanted to see the’New Year’s Bell Battering Event’, other bell events were held online.
The food alley at Jongno 3-ga Station near Bosingak was also rare. Most restaurants have a small number of tables on which customers sit. Even at the end of the year, some restaurants were closed at all.
At the same time, the food alley near Seolleung Station in Gangnam-gu, Seoul was also in a busy atmosphere. If it used to be, it would be full of people doing the New Year’s countdown, but now, the store is only available until 9 PM, so fewer people come.
In the aftermath of the 3rd coronavirus pandemic, local governments across the country are also suspending bell-splitting events one after another.
The city of Daegu canceled the bell-belling event on the 20th day after the 12th in order to counteract the spread of double-digit consecutive numbers of new confirmed cases.
The Korean people’s sunrise festival in Pohang, Gyeongsangbuk-do, where people can enjoy the sunset and the sunrise at the same time, as well as the ending ceremony of the Yeongdeok Gyeongbuk Daejong, were also canceled.
Busan City also conducts non-face-to-face events for citizens’ bell-belling events for the New Year. New Year’s countdown video, hitting scenes, etc., were recorded in advance and released as a broadcast program on the 31st.
