A man in his thirties who threatened to blow gasoline inside a shopping mall building in Cheongju was arrested after 12 hours of confrontation.

According to the Cheongwon Police Station on the 29th, Mr. A (34) is accused of breaking into the gym on the 4th floor of a four-story building in Yulyang-dong, Cheongwon-gu, Cheongwon-gu, on the 28th at around 11:10 am, spraying gasoline and damaging the door with a hammer.

In the first place, Mr. A asked for money, saying that he had suffered damage due to the director of this gym. However, after occupying the building, he confronted the police and fire departments for more than 12 hours, making a gibberish, such as, “At the direction of the Russian President, I came to detonate the building, Bring the staff of the Russian embassy”.

In the process, he lit butane gas and threw it out of the building, and threw broken glass and exercise equipment at firefighters trying to enter the building. The National Police Agency’s crisis negotiation team, which continuously attempts to talk, swear words.

Through social network service (SNS), they even threatened to destroy buildings at any time by showing butane gas and gasoline barrels wrapped in tissue paper and floors covered with newspapers. The police evacuated about 20 people, including gym workers, in preparation for a dangerous situation.

The police, who persuaded Mr. A over the phone, eventually took a rope down from the roof of the building at around 11:30 pm, entered the window, overpowered Mr. A and arrested him.

A police official said, “Rather than entering the gym in case of an accident, Mr. A subsided his excitement and persuaded him to come out, but there was no progress,” said a police official. “The negotiations seemed meaningless, so we entered.”

The police plan to investigate the exact details of the incident by reviewing the application of charges such as intrusion of the prefectural building, property damage, arson, and special threats.
