According to related industries on the 17th, Samsung Electronics’ semiconductor plant in Austin, Texas, has stopped operating from the dawn of the day in Korean time. It was because the power supply was cut off due to a cold wave. Samsung Electronics explained that it has already been notified in advance and measures have been taken to minimize damage.

Samsung Electronics’ Austin plant produces power semiconductor products for information technology (IT) devices and communication semiconductors based on 14-nanometer (1 billionth of a meter) process technology. The Austin plant is said to have stopped for the first time since its establishment in 1998.

Samsung Electronics wasn’t the only place where power outages were caused by this cold wave. Nearby global automotive semiconductor companies NXP and Infineon also have their factories stopped.

CNN broadcast on the 16th (local time) citing the analysis data from the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a record cold wave caused 73% of the total area of ​​the 48 states on the mainland to snowball, and those who died from the cold wave have been It reported that there were at least 15 people.
