It was confirmed that more than one-third of the confirmed cases of the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19) mutant virus originating abroad were asymptomatic. Even mild patients complaining of coughing without fever also surpassed one-fifth of all confirmed mutant viruses.

On the 27th, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) announced this through a report on the’Clinical and Epidemiological Characteristics of Patients with Corona 19 Major Mutant Viruses in Korea’. This is the first report that has fully investigated the domestic mutant virus infection.

According to the Agency for Disease Control and Prevention, a total of 162 mutant viruses have been confirmed by the 1st of this month since the first person infected with a mutant virus from the UK was discovered in Korea on December 28 last year.

As a result of analyzing the epidemiological and clinical characteristics of these 162 people, the Agency for Disease Control and Prevention said that 127 (78.4%) were infected overseas and 35 (21.6%) were infected domestically.

There were 138 patients (85.2%) with mutations originating in the UK, followed by 18 patients (11.1%) in South Africa and 6 patients (3.7%) in Brazil.

Among them, 106 (65.4%) were male and 56 (34.6%) were female.

The average age of the confirmed mutant virus was 36.4 years old. By age group, 30 to 39 years old was the most common with 42 (25.9%).

In terms of nationality, there were 105 Koreans (64.8%), more than 57 foreigners (35.2%).

Symptoms were found in 100 (61.7%), more than half of the 162 confirmed mutant viruses.

The number of asymptomatic patients with no symptoms reached 62 (38.3%).

Excluding asymptomatic patients, 37 patients (22.8%) complained that they had mild respiratory symptoms such as cough without fever.

27 patients (16.7%) complained of mild respiratory symptoms with fever, 18 patients (11.1%) with fever, 8 patients (4.9%) with other symptoms such as chills and abdominal pain while having a fever, only other symptoms. It was followed by 8 patients (4.9%) and 2 patients (1.2%) with loss of taste or smell.

As such, the symptoms that most of the domestic mutant virus patients complained of were mild, but five of the British mutant virus patients were in the severe gastric stage. One of them was found to have died.

Patients with severe gastric disorders refer to patients who need intensive treatment such as high flow oxygen therapy, ventilator, and ECMO.

The gastric severity rate of patients with mutant virus in Korea was 3.09% and the fatality rate was 0.6%.

The Agency for Disease Control and Prevention said, “When comparing the fatality rate and the fatality rate of the major mutant virus infected people in Korea, there was no significant difference from the existing Corona 19.” “I need this.”

The Agency for Disease Control and Prevention also emphasized, “To block the influx and spread of mutant viruses in Korea, we need to strengthen the surveillance system to respond quickly and analyze the characteristics of mutant viruses to lay the foundation for scientific evidence.”
